Katie Martinez is an HLS recipient of the 2023 Clinical Legal Education Association (CLEA) Outstanding Clinical Student Awards. She is recognized for “her unwavering dedication to the Child Advocacy Clinic,” during which she completed an externship with the Committee for Public Counsel Services’ Youth Advocacy Division (YAD) through Y-Lab. Katie also participated in Y-Lab’s Education Law Clinic and was an inaugural Youth Advocacy and Policy Fellow.
Katie cites the experiences and mentorship provided by Y-Lab as major contributors to her ability to envision and attain her “dream job” as an Equal Justice Works Fellow for the School Justice Project, where she will advocate for the education rights of young people with disabilities in Washington, D.C. detention centers.
