Visiting Professor Anne Dailey will discuss the ways in which transgender youth face barriers to full and equal participation in our nation’s public schools. Professor Dailey will focus on transgender students’ rights, starting with their general rights to healthcare and privacy and then focusing in on recent controversies over school bathrooms and sports teams. The discussion will situate transgender students’ rights within a broader conversation about the role of public education in fostering children’s independent interests and in sustaining liberal democratic values of equality, pluralism and tolerance.
