Bryan Stevenson & His Start in Bartholet’s Former Public Interest Law Clinic
In Tell Me More with Kelly Corrigan (episode 1, 10/5/20) Bryan Stevenson (JD and MPP ’85), founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative, discusses his racial justice work as well as a course taught many years ago by CAP Faculty Director Elizabeth Bartholet. The current Child Advocacy Clinic is modelled on the long ago class, Public Interest Law: Race, Justice & Poverty (PILRAP), that sent students to work for different civil rights organizations, and sent Bryan Stevenson in particular to work for an organization fighting the death penalty in Georgia.
Member of CAP’s First Class Wins Recognition for Child Advocacy Efforts
Elisa P. McEnroe (JD ’07), part of the first class of the CAP students, has received the 2020 Eddie Ohlbaum Distinguished Advocate for Children Award in recognition of her work with the Support Center for Child Advocates. After graduating from HLS, Elisa clerked for Judge Anita B. Brody of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Now at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP she is a partner, deputy leader of litigation practice in Philadelphia, and a member of the firm’s Philadelphia Pro Bono Committee. Elisa also maintains an active pro bono practice.
Olivia Barket, JD ’20, Praises the Child Advocacy Clinic
In Q&A with Olivia Barket (Grace Yuh, OCP Blog Post, May 26, 2020), Olivia Barket, JD ’20, highlights the key role CAP’s Child Advocacy Clinic played in her legal education. Through her placement with the Juvenile Unit of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and the Clinic’s classroom seminar component, Olivia gained a deeper understanding of the complexities of the juvenile justice system and the variety of roles advocacy can take both inside and outside of the courtroom.

2016 Skadden Fellowship Awarded to Elizabeth Hadaway, JD ’15 and CAP Child Advocacy Clinic Alum
Elizabeth Hadaway, JD ’15, Hadaway will work at Public Counsel in Los Angeles on advocacy for California children denied the necessary instruction to achieve basic literacy. Her project will include community-led impact litigation, representation of children in their schools, as well as outreach to share the litigation model.

Two CAP Child Advocacy Clinic Students Awarded 2014 Skadden Fellowships
Alice Abrokwa, JD ’12, and Melissa Friedman, JD ’14, were among the recipients of the prestigious two-year post-graduate fellowships that support students who wish to pursue public interest law. Alice will work at the Judge David L. Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law in Washington, D.C. and Melissa will be at the Legal Aid Society in New York.
